Fun fact - How you can help sustain the bee population...

Have you ever wondered how you can do your little bit to ensure that the worlds bee population remains?
If so check out the list of ways you can help below:

1. Be bee conscious by ensuring that you try to protect the bees that populate the piece of land you own and/or work on.  A good way to do this is by making sure the plants you buy are not pre-treated with pesticides!

2. Buy local, raw honey from a local beekeepers. Buying honey from your local farmers market is a great idea as you can meet the beekeepers, discuss their practices and learn a little about beekeeping at the same time.

3. Try to not use any pesticides, fungicides or herbicides that are not bee friendly. Through treating plants with these products you can unintentionally kill your local bees, as they touch and consume the nectar and pollen from the effected plants and get poisoned as a result.

4. Plant your garden with a variety of native/ bee friendly plants. They provide a great source of nectar/ pollen. Doing so ensures the bees have a diverse and regular food supply all year around.

5. Try not to go overboard when weeding your garden. Many plants like dandelion, are an excellent source of food for bees. In fact at some times of the year , those “weeds” are often the only source of food available for them.

6. Ensure there is somewhere for bees to rehydrate around your property. Even if you live in an apartment and only have a small balcony, look to leave a saucer outside with water in it, especially during the heat of summer. It's also helpful if you put a few stones in the water so bees can't accidentally drown!

7. Educate yourself and your friends and family about bees. Bees are not dangerous; they feed on flowers and don’t go out of their way to attack humans. Through education we will learn to better respect them.
